The Society of Medalists is item 59 on pages 27-28. The Norton Art Gallery owned a complete set and borrowed another from Medallic Art Co to display a double set–for obverse and reverse--of 85 SoM medals for this exhibition.

Includes tables of medals issued by the Circle of Friends of the Medallion, 1909-1915, and The Society of Medals, 1930-1987 [furnished by D. Wayne Johnson]. In 1988 The Society of Medalists reprinted Joseph Veach Noble’s article as a separate monograph of 26 pages (numbered 224-247 as in original). It included illustrations of nine SoM medals and tables also as in original.

The only American auction in which every Society of Medalist Issue up to #110, in addition to silver medals, special issues and paperweights were sold individually (34 silver medals and 122 bronze among 156 total lots).

Because of a fortuitous bequest of a complete set of Society of Medalists medals by its onetime president, Joseph Veach Noble, Brookgreen Gardens has taken a dynamic interest in collecting the medallic and sculptural work of all SoM artists. Thus every SoM artist is covered in this book.

All 32 Society of Medalists issues up to 1945 (Issues #1 through 32, plus #34 and #38) are contained in this collection. In the Introduction, Susan Luftschein discusses the Societyof Medalists at length, p xxii-xxiv.
